Phonics and Reading with McGuffey

The exercises are not terribly boring. The app does use animation and sound in an entertaining way to help students remember their letter sounds. We aimed at results based instruction and we've beta tested it on several people including adults who have difficulties with reading. The program is based on the McGuffey's Eclectic Primer Revised Edition which is one of the most popular text books ever made for teaching introductory phonics. One of the design goals is to make the interface usable for people who cannot read. We've been amazed at all the programs out there for phonics and reading that lack repeatable verbal instructions and examples. This software is a systematic and methodical approach to instruction just like the McGuffey reader itself but it also includes a helpful tutor (which is what instructional software is all about). There are few programs that are essentially computer based training for literacy and this is the model that we based the program on.
